Alina Habba has resigned as New Jersey's top federal prosecutor. This follows a court battle that invalidated her right to serve.
Attorney General's Statement
US Attorney General, the Attorney General, accepted Habba's resignation on the start of the week. In a statement that the appeals court finding made it impossible for the official to lead the department effectively.
"Do not interpret adherence to the ruling as defeat," Habba stated. "The effort will now stretch across the country."

The departure was triggered by a judicial panel determined that she had been acting without proper authority as US attorney. This ruling is likely to affect many criminal cases in New Jersey.
The court said that a acting appointment that bypassed Senate approval breached the statute on vacant positions.

The Attorney General added that Habba will remain at the Department of Justice as a high-level advisor. She will challenge the decision of the court's action, with hopes of a overturned decision.
In a statement, she wrote that the court "cannot be permitted to second-guess the President's choice of attorneys entrusted with carrying out the primary duty of the administration of enforcing the law."

Earlier, Habba took on the top New Jersey post, the former president had announced he was appointing her as his presidential counsellor during his second administration, calling the lawyer as "unwavering in her loyalty" and a "tireless advocate for justice".
