This New Horror Film Is Now Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Partnership.

We present a test for those in enduring partnerships who appreciate the horror genre: Get comfortable with your partner and stream Together. The 2025 indie hit recently had its streaming debut on Hulu. Outwardly, it might appear like conventional body horror, but beneath Together lies a intense meditation about our choices in loving our partners.

An Introductory Film Investigating Partnership Complexities

Together represents the introductory feature for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It showcases Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Millie and Tim, an unmarried couple that have remained a couple for ten years. Having wed in actuality in 2017, the actors bring a unique chemistry to their portrayals, expertly portraying both the good and bad of a enduring union.

The narrative starts when the couple transition from the big city to the countryside for professional reasons. A commonly used story element, of course, but that’s primarily where the cliches end. Together evolves into as much a deep dive into the psyche of the pair’s relationship as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

An Otherworldly Trigger

While hiking near their country house, a storm hits, and the two tumble into an underground cave. After spending the night there and finally finding a way out, a strange force takes hold of the duo. This force creates a otherworldly bond between them that goes exceeding emotional intimacy.

The whole movie is a slow burn horror experience, weaving in elements of dreamlike terrors, disturbing (but tastefully done) body horror, and authentically humorous dialogue (sometimes during something grotesque). Michael Shanks skillfully blends these components neatly and presents them in a slowly mounting sense of impending doom.

Complex Characterizations

A great deal of Together is only Brie and Franco, and they masterfully render manifold depths to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Millie’s confidence and feeling of intimacy is suffering due to a distance. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his reluctance to pursue anything but his failing musical ambitions inexorably rises.

Tim, on the other hand senses confinement and cut off by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve relocated rural and far away from his social circle. He dreads the notion of completely losing his individual identity in another person. This fear is intensified by the reality he can’t drive and needs Millie for mobility.

The film's most intelligent aspect in this movie never makes one partner or the other the obvious villain.

The couple grapple with the kind of problems that come with long-term unions after ten years. Fundamentally, they have affection for each other. They share moments of joy, comfort one another, and are vulnerable at times. But below this facade, there’s an persistent current of uncertainty about their bond.

Symbolism and Metaphor

While the supernatural forces in Together act as a metaphor for these concerns of codependency and fully committing to a partner, the metaphor does not come across as clumsy or self-important. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes present a ideal counterpart to the relationship narrative. Both the supernatural and the personal serve the other in harmony.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s final act, which won’t be spoiled here, has sparked debate on the movie's final takeaway about enmeshed dynamics. It has been said that single viewers have seen the movie as a compelling reason for avoiding commitment. Meanwhile, some couples who were in conflict found that the film ultimately assisted them reconcile.

Regardless of your relationship status, your own response could function as a revealing measure of how you perceive partnership. Will the ending inspire a sense of discomfort and fear, or a positive outlook on love? Will you see yourself in one of the characters and feel frustration, or simply look at your other half and state, “I understand that choice”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an experiment you can undertake at this very moment.

Together is available to watch on Hulu as of this moment.
