Melania Trump's Digital Currency Creators Facing Pump-and-Dump Scam Legal Action
The developers responsible for a digital token launched by US First Lady Melania Trump are now alleged in federal papers of executing a fraudulent operation.
Coin Release and Price Surge
The $MELANIA cryptocurrency were released for a minimal price each on January 19, one day preceding Donald Trump assumed the presidency.
Together with the $MELANIA coin, the former president launched his own digital currency shortly prior to the presidential inauguration.
In a matter of hours, the value of the $MELANIA token surged to over $13 per unit.
Rapid Decline in Value
Nevertheless, the price plummeted just as rapidly, and is now only about 10 cents – below a fraction of its maximum worth.
Meanwhile, the $TRUMP coin achieved a maximum of $45.47 and presently sells for approximately five seventy-nine.
Legal Allegations and Plaintiffs' Position
The claimants allege that the coin's creators executed the operation aware that the digital currency's value would decline sharply.
The First Lady personally is not included in the legal action. Claimants stated they do not consider she was culpable, but accused the digital currency firms of exploiting her and other well-known personalities as a facade for their criminal operations.
Exchange Platform Role
In newly filed federal filings, claimants allege executives of the Meteora trading platform, where the First Lady's token was originally listed, of establishing a plan that allowed them to discreetly acquire significant amounts of the virtual coin.
Associated individuals then promptly liquidated these digital currencies, pocketing substantial profits while triggering the price to plummet, according to records entered in Manhattan federal court.
Wider Proceedings
The claims regarding the First Lady's coin have been added to court cases regarding multiple additional cryptocurrencies, which started in spring.
The Trump family has allegedly generated over one billion dollars in pre-tax gains from various cryptocurrency-related products and companies over the past 12 months.
