Caelan Doris Makes Irish Squad While McCarthy Misses Out

Returning manager Andy Farrell has selected skipper Doris in his Irish squad for the fall matches, however Joe McCarthy misses out.

Doris, absent from play since undergoing a shoulder operation in early May, has come back to provincial training, but it remains unclear whether he will be ready to face the All Blacks in Chicago on November 1.

Second row Joe McCarthy, however, was not considered after not recovering from the foot issue suffered during the first British and Irish Lions Test against the Wallabies in July.

Ulster forward Izuchukwu and Munster wing Nash also miss out due to injury, and full-back Keenan had already been ruled out after undergoing hip surgery following the Lions tour.

Leinster forward Paddy McCarthy - Joe's younger brother - is the only new member in the 34-man squad, however the Irish Rugby Football Union states new Munster pair Edogbo and Brian Gleeson and once-capped western province wing Bolton will travel to Chicago as "reserves".

Following facing the New Zealand at Soldier Field in a rematch of their previous meeting, Ireland host the Brave Blossoms, the Wallabies and world champions the Springboks in Dublin.

"There's an exciting look to the squad and there's an opportunity for the more experienced members and for those who made their debuts on the summer tour to the Lelos and Portugal," said Farrell, who returns to national team duties after taking a sabbatical to lead the Lions tour to Australia.

In a largely experienced selection, Leinster's Prendergast and Munster's Jack Crowley will once again compete for the starting number 10 position. The fly-half role is remains available, as Prendergast and Crowley set to face off for the first time in the upcoming URC game at the Dublin venue.

Ciaran Frawley is the third fly-half chosen as Farrell deciding not to calling up Leinster's Byrne.

At number 9, the Ireland boss has selected British and Irish Lion Jamison Gibson-Park and Casey, who captained Ireland to the summer Test victories over the Lelos and the Lobos. There is also a recall for the western province's Caolin Blade, who is preferred to teammate Ben Murphy.

Robbie Henshaw, Bundee Aki, Ringrose and Stuart McCloskey form an experienced group of centre options. Osborne is another option in the midfield, but the youngster is additionally a frontrunner to cover for Keenan at number 15.

Wingers Lowe, Mack Hansen, Tommy O'Brien and Jacob Stockdale are named. O'Brien shone on his national team debut over the summer with two tries apiece in the victories over Georgia and the Lobos.

McCarthy is the only new addition in the Ireland pack. The front rower has started two of his province's three United Rugby Championship matches this season and featured in Ireland A's loss by the English in the English city previously.

The 22-year-old was selected in caretaker coach O'Connell's summer selection, but did not earn a cap.

Southern province lock Thomas Ahern, who earned his debut appearances in those matches, is retained, while experienced Ulster second row Iain Henderson is back after missing the summer tour.

Conan, who played in each of the Lions matches over the summer, is set to deputise for Doris should the skipper fails to recover fitness soon enough to play New Zealand.

The Ireland squad will assemble in Dublin on Monday before traveling to Chicago on the following day.
